Summary:
Most critics complain Back in Black, the album AC/DC recorded after the death of their original lead screamer Bon Scott, is ridiculously juvenile, obvious, snickering, bludgeoning, derivative, single-minded about sex and booze, a big cartoon. All true, of course, and--on rock 'n' ragers like "What Do You Do For Money Honey," "You Shook Me All Night Long," and the title track--all great. As Scott's replacement Brian Johnson reminds us, loud and crunchy, no-holds-barred "rock and roll ain't noise pollution...it makes good, good sense." Never trust anyone who refuses to drink domestic beer, laugh at the Three Stooges, or crank Back in Black. --David Cantwell.

Great album, nice mini-DVD story line
Customer Rating: Score = 5Score = 5Score = 5Score = 5Score = 5
I bought this (finally) as a replacement for the old worn out LP, after giving up that AC/DC will ever be on iTunes. The album speaks for itself as one of the greatest metal albums of all time.

But the DVD, though short, is great. I saw both the Bon Scott fronted and Brian Johnson fronted AC/DC at live concerts (yeah, showing my age). The history review, of the long overdue success brought on by the Highway to Hell album, Bon's death from drinking (so they say), and the Back in Black themed album "tribute" featuring Johnson is well done, though I wish it were longer. Comments by Malcom and Angus are great, it's kinda scary to see Angus looking normal without his schoolboy uniform and back pack.

And, it is strangly reassuring to see that Angus' receding hairline matches my own!

Highly recommended, and used to continue my 15 year old's education into my world of Rock N Roll.

Only CD Quality Audio on DVD side
Customer Rating: Score = 1Score = 1Score = 1Score = 1Score = 1
The audio track on the DVD side is only 16 Bits and 48Khz, hardly DVD audio quality (which is 24 Bit / 96Khz). On top of that, the signal clips (distorts) on every beat as can be seen in an audio editor (and also heard if you pay attention). This is a really poor job the label did, definitely not worth buying. Better get the regular remastered CD instead. The album is 5 stars, I'm giving 1 star for the DualDisc version because of the poor audio quality.

Another reviewer mentioned there's no difference in audio between the CD side and DVD side. I disagree. There's a clearly audible difference, the DVD side being remastered (again) and showing more transparency and detail, but since it's clipping all the time, it sounds worse overall.

I don't understand the bad reviews...

I can't claim to be a complete hard-core AC/DC fan. I've always loved the stuff they play on the radio, but I don't think I'm as much a fan as most people who have reviewed this edition of "Back In Black". Having said that....

Review Part I: The album is awesome, but we all know that. Three of my favorite AC/DC songs are on it - "Hells Bells", "Back In Black", and "You Shook Me...". I remember my Aunt bought this when it first came out(!). Considering I always listened to her Beatles albums when over her house, this album was quite a change in gears. I can't say I loved it right then and there, but I knew there were some good tunes on it. "Back In Black" was my first exposure to AC/DC, so I never knew there was an original singer before Brian Johnson. I wasn't aware of this until I hit high school and my musician buddies enlightened me to Bon Scot. As a result, for ME, Brian Johnson was always THE singer for AC/DC, and "Back In Black" was their first truly great album - even though I appreciate that this is not the case for many out there who may be reading this.

Review Part II: I'm not sure why this edition is getting so many poor ratings. The audio CD copied over just fine to my iTunes, and then onto my iPod with no problems whatsoever...... and this DVD feature - which I am watching as I write this - is pretty cool. It's as good as anything I've seen on VH1(!), and I did not detect ANY glitches in the playback of the DVD video portion of this disc.

I have not run into anything that would cause me to give this CD anything less than what it deserves: 5 stars.

If you haven't bought "Back In Black" yet and have been thinking of buying it soon, you'd not be making a mistake purchasing this edition. But, if you don't need the "risk" of problems, then just buy the CD format.

DualDisc Technology is fraudulent!! Beware!!
Customer Rating: Score = 1Score = 1Score = 1Score = 1Score = 1
Fantastic AC/DC album. But this format, the DualDisc junk..is just that...junk. It won't work on many computers and even some CD players. It's totally unreliable. Beware. I'm going to email DualDisc (their address is on the web) and give em' a piece of my mind. A total waste of money!
